A Study of Fibrinogen Level in Type -2 Diabetes Mellitus and its Relation to Glycemic Control

Mahmmoud Abdallah Abousetta;

Abstract

I
n this study, patients with type II diabetes mellitus had a high prevalence of hyperfibrinogenemia.
High fibrinogen levels were associated with dyslipidemia. Signifying the possible vascular complications associated with hyperfibrinogenemia.
High Fibrinogen level was significantly associated with hemoglobin A1C value; fasting and postprandial glucose level. Signifying that the high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality associated with poor glycemic control could be attributed to fibrinogen as one of its risk factors.
High Fibrinogen level was significantly associated with creatinine signifying its relation to diabetic nephropathy as a microvascular complication.
Higher fibrinogen level was strongly associated with albumin creatinie ratio signifying its role in the early stages of diabetic nephropathy and the prediction of future cardiovascular event as it represent an endothelial injury.
No significant relation was seen between levels of fibrinogen levels and hypertension, smoking status, duration of diabetes and BMI.
