STUDIES ON SOME PARASITES OF CHICKEN

Abstract


Consumption of poultry meat is increasing in the developed• countries included Egypt while consumption of red meat is static or declining. To meet the needs of increasing human populations, large operations were conducted using high densities of animals financed and managed by large companies, this production system due to the Arthropod increasing in poultry houses . This study was initiated to achieve the most important parasites, survey these species and their numbers,• studying the population density, seasonal variations and the relationship between the temperature and relative humidity on the rates of infestation by these parasites, the effect of some compounds on the biting lice and some measurements of chicken . 1- The Tick: Argas persicus Some private and governmental farms in the different regions at Menoufia Governorate were examined to determine the infestation by ticks in the present study, it has been noticed that the . greatest infestation was in the governmental farms, therefore, Faculty of Agriculture farm at Shebin El-Kom was chosen to make our study. The study was conducted from May 1993 to April 1994, samples were taken twice monthly . 1.1- Population density of different stages of A. persicus . Total number of 3759 individuals (1206 males, 928 females, 1937 nymphs, and 188 larvae) were collected during the period from May 1993 to April 1994 .
