Recent Trends in Management of Pediatric Septic Shock
Ihab Mahmoud Abdelhameed Ahmed;
Abstract
Septic shock in children still constitutes aclinical challenge for healthcare providers,both in the emergency department and theintensive care unit. Early diagnosis, allowingrapid therapeutic intervention, is essential in improving the outcome of these patients (Biban, et al 2012)
Consistent successful treatment ofseptic shock cannot begin in the ICUfor patients who present to the emergency department inshock; it must begin at the time of triagein the emergency department. Early recognition andtreatment of septic shock benefits all patients, because the effort to recognizeearly shock leads to a more meticulouspatient assessment from theinitial encounter. We developed a septicshock protocol and care guidelinethat led to improved compliance in deliveryof rapid, aggressive fluid resuscitation,early antibiotic and oxygenadministration, and decreased hospitallength of stay(Larsen, et al 2011)
