Detection of Epstein-Barr Virus in Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma by ELISA and Polymerase Chain Reaction

Eman Omar Siam;

Abstract

This study included 37 subjects from the NCJ,Cairo University.The cases studied were 12 cases of large cell lymphoma ,4 cases of inununoblastic lymphoma, 3 cases of Burkitt' s lymphoma , 4 cases were mixed small and large cell lymphoma ,4 cases of lymphoblastic lymphoma and 3 cases of monocytoid B-cell lymphoma.
There are 7 subjects as controls.

The data reported in this study were:

1-Amplificd l'CR product of EBV-DNA detected by DNAenzyme immunoassay in circulating lymphocytes: In large cell and immunoblastic lymphoma( Group II) 56% were positive lor the EBV genome. Where the mean
± S.D was 0.424± 0.328 ,which was significant to the control and other lymphomas go ups . In other lymphomas (GroupIll) 46% were positive for the EBV-DNA ..Whcre mean± SD was 0.188 ± 0.084 which was significant to the control group.

2- Amplified PCR product of EBV-DNA detected by DNA enzyme immunoassay in lymph node biopsies: In large cell and inununoblastic lymphomas(Gruupll) EBV- DNA was in 44% of the cases. Where their mean
± S. D was 0.257 ± 0.2324 .This was statistically significant to control. In the other lymhpomas (Group Ill)
