Abstract

This study deal with the medical records and cranial CT study of 100 patients with acute head trauma, admitted to neurosurgery department in Suez Canal University llospital in Ismailia, to determine the frequency of abnormal nanial CT !:> ..:ans in head injured patients, also to relates the clinical variables (by means of Glasgow Coma Scale scores) to the findings of the cranial CT scans in those patients for purposes of the algorithmic approach and management.

l"hl• patients included in this study were 85 males and I 5 females. Their age varied between 6 to 60 years, with the most common afTection in the first and second decades.

In this study, the patients classified clinically into three groups according to GCS: mild. moderate and severe ones. 36 patients lie in mild group. 23 patients in moderate group and the last 41 found in severe group.

Motor vehicle accident is the predominant causes of head injury in different GCS groups (58 %), followed by pedestrian struck by automobile (23 %), while assault and fall shear least percent (12 % & 7 % respectively).

Our series were including 13 variables of head injury identified •in 100 patients. 10 patients sho'Y no CT findings, while 90 patients show CT findings,
11 of them show solitary CT findings, while the rest 79 patients show multiple

CT findings.
