EVALUATION OF THE MUTAGENIC POTENTIAL OF IVERMECTIN

Dalia Demerdash Abd EL Monem Hafez;

Abstract

lvermectin (IVM) is a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic agent. It shows an excellent anthelmintic effect in veterinary and human medicine. IVM is cheap and effective against internal and external parasites in economic and domestic animals.

The present work searched for the potential mutagenicity of IVM. This was achieved by using cytogenetic and molecular study.

The current study was divided into two main parts:

1- Cytogenetic study:-

The hazardous effect of IVM was investigated in bone marrow cells through chromosomal aberration test and micronucleus test (MNT). Chromosome aberration test was also performed in germ cells.

2- Molecular study:

The effects of IVM on blood serum proteins were investigated. Total protein content was determined. Electrophoresis analysis of serum protein was also done by using SDS-PAGE.
