ANESTHETIC MANAGEMENT OF BRAIN INJURED PATIENT PRESENTING FOR NON-NEUROLOGICAL PROCEDURES
Mohamed El Sayed Abd El-Hameed;
Abstract
Traumatic brain InJury has direct consequences on the CNS as contusion, intracranial hemorrhage and axonal injury, cause immediate tissue death or may result in progressive neural loss due to axonal disruption. It also has consequences as ischemia.
There are numerous systemic sequelae of head trauma, including pulmonary abnormalities, cardiovascular changes, fluid and electrolyte derangement, and alternation of coagulation and gastrointestinal function. These additional disorders may exacerbate neurologic injury and contribute to the morbidity and mortality from head trauma.
