Torsional Behavior of Light Weight Concrete Beams

Ahmed Noshy Mohammed;

Abstract

Recently in Egypt the Lightweightconcretewas produced and started to be used in construction. This Lightweightconcrete helps to reduce the weight of the structures which lead to reduce the reinforcement steel ratio.
In this research, we studiedthe torsional strengthening of rectangular and flanged beams using LWCinstead of normal density concrete that has the same compressive strength, and investigated the effect of variation of torsion Rft, and theeffect of cross section shapeon the torsional behavior of light weight reinforced concrete beams.
Sixspecimens were tested under pure torsion.Four specimens are rectangular beams (one is ordinary concrete, and the other three specimens are LWC) with dimensions b / h= 15/30 cm, and the other two LWC specimens are flanged beams with T-shaped cross-section and dimensions bw/hw/bf/tf = 15/30/40/8 cm.
After testing the six specimens, and analysis the test results a comparison will done among the all tested beams results and study the torsional effect of change various parameters. Finally the tested beams will analyzed by theoretical model, and the obtained results will discussed and compared with the experimental results.
