Abstract


This Thesis begins with a literature survey of quinoxalinone, benoxazinone, benzothiazinone and pyrazolo-pyridazinone derivatives concerning their methods of preparation and biological activities. The present study describes the preparation of certain new heterocyclic compounds with potential biological activities as anti­ inflammatory and antibacterial agents.

In the present work the following starting and intermediate compounds were prepared:

1. 1,3-Diphenyl-propenone 15la.

2. 1,3-Di-p-tolyl-propenone 15lb.

3. 1,3-Bis-(4-methoxyphenyl)-propenone 151c.


4. 1-Phenyl-3-p-tolyl- propenone 15ld.

5. 3-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-propenone 15le.


6. 2,3-Dibromo-1,3-diphenyl-propan-1-one 152a.

7. 2,3-Dibromo-1,3-di-p-tolyl- propan-1-one 152b.

8. 2,3-Dibromo-1,3-Bis-(4-methoxyphenyl)-propan-1-one 152c


9. 2,3-Dibromo-1-Phenyl-3-p-tolyl- propan-1-one 152d.

10. 2,3-Dibromo-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenylpropan-1-one 152e.

11. 1,3-Diphenylpropan-1,3-dione 153a.
