Hoda Sayed Elkhodary;

Abstract

Breast cancer affects about 12% of women worldwide. It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths in women worldwide.
Metastatic disease is the main underlying cause of death in the majority of breast cancer patients and represents a great challenge.
This study is a retrospective analysis studying 116 female patients with invasive non metastatic breast cancer presented to Clinical oncology department at Ain-Shams University hospitals. All patients’ records in the period from January 2010 to December 2013 were reviewed allowing three years disease free survival and overall survival follow up; all data were collected through chart analysis. Patient characteristics, clinical picture and pathological data were thoroughly collected.
In our study, many of the parameters addressed were found to be similar to worldwide incidences with little variations. Mean age at diagnosis was 47 years. IDC was the most common pathological subtype yet ILC had a worse prognosis.
All patients had stage II-III at presentation, with higher incidence of inflammatory breast cancer (5.1%) than incidence reported worldwide (2-2.5%).
