Summary and conclusions

Sol-gel processes are a new technique for preparation of high performance materials for industrial applications includes ceramics, coatings, glasses, optics, sensors, electronics and catalysts. Preparing a advanced material using sol-gel technology has advantage over traditional method such as low temperature, purity and homogeneity. The Ti02-Si02 aerogel has been used as
photocatalyst for degradation of cyanide from wastewater.

Cyanide was selected as a model for the photocataJytic degradation experiments due to its nonvolatile and common contaminant in the industrial wastewater. There is a huge amount of cyanide as waste industrial waters such as effluent from electroplating, gold mining, heat treatment and chemical
compames.

1- Ti0rSi02 aerogel and xerogel have been prepared via sol-gel technique by dissolving titanium (IV) isopropoxide, (TTIP) and Tetraethyl orthosilicate, (TEOS) for degradation of cyanide The optimum conditions of Ti02-Si02 gel preparation parameters
derived from this study are Ti: Si mole ratio is 1: 6, H20: Si
(OC2Hs) 4 mole ratio is 8, H20: Ti (OC3H7) 4 mole ratio is 8,

C2HsOH: Si (OC2Hs) 4 mole ratio is 10, HN03(1M): Si (OC2H5 4
