AFFECTlONS OF SKIN AND SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUES IN FARM ANIMALS

Abstract


Skin considered a protective coal of the body and therefore it subjected to traumas, barbed wire and accidents resulting in significant surgical affections, which interfere with the physiological process and performance of the animals, and need special care for their treatment.
The present study was carried out to through a light on the most common skin affections among farm animals.The total number of the examined animals were 4684 (1282 buffaloes, 1141 cattle, 870 sheep,
675 goats, 34 I donkeys, 324 horses and 51 camels ) of both sexes,
different ages , breeds and body weight. These animals were collected from EI-Riad localities , Kafr EI-Sheikh governorate over a period from March 1994 to December 1997.The history, through examination, clinical diagnosiand available treatment were done for each patient animal. The total number of skin affected animals was
404 representing 8.6 % of the total examined animals, they include
I 09 cases of localized surgical infections, 90 cases of wounds, 64 cases of dermatitis, 47 cases of oedemas, 33 cases of bursitis, 29 cases of tumours, 18 cases of cutaneous cysts, 8 cases of burns and 6 cases of lcukodern1:1.
Localized surgical infection represented 27.0 % of the total
diseased cases. Various types of localized surgical infection were recorded ( abscesses 95, cutaneous ulcer 9 and phlegmon 5 ).
Abscesses representing 87.2 % of localized surgical infection
nnd 2J.:'i % of the totnl condition and bad manngcmcnt or the foetus during nnd nflcr
parturition. Localized surgical infections were treated as usual .
Skin wounds representing 22.4 % of the total discnscd cnscs nnd observed in 90 animals.
