Abstract

Automatic feature analysis and classification of human chromosome images as well as automatic identification of the DNA sequences are essential to advanced studies of genetics. The explosion of chromosome images and DNA sequence data in public and private databases has been encouraging interdisciplinary research on biology and information technology. This thesis considers in some details, the problem of automatic classification and pairing of human chromosomes as well as, the • identification of DNA sequences. Modern signal processing techniques and

feature extraction and classification criteria are used to identify, analyse, and interpret important features of the genetics data images and sequences. To do this, special computer programs have been developed.
