Tolerance Distribution For Production Processes Integrated With CAM System
Khaled Ahmed Kamal;
Abstract
The intense global competition to produce quality products at a low cost has led many industrial nations to consider mechanical tolerances as a key factor to cost saving as will as to remain competitive. This research introduces and computerizes a procedure for tolerance assignment for parts and assemblies to satisfY the function
requirements and mean while keep production cost minimum as possible.
The method is developed to eliminate the disadvantages of existing methods. The disadvantages are the depending on the experience of engineer and ignoring the relation between tolerance and cost of manufacturing process. The new method which is introduced in this work, links between two techniques which are :tolerance analysis and synthesis oftolerancing, and cost-tolerance algorithms.
The first technique introduces initial tolerance values for individual parts in a mechanical assembly. Production process is selected based on tolerances and form of the part, then a production cost-tolerance model will be selected based on less model error. Also, statistical parameters for the production process will be
determined.
The second technique introduces the optimum tolerance values for individual parts in the assembly. The optimization on problem is formulated depending on the first technique. So that the production cost-tolerance model will be objective function. The constrains are process capability boundary and the function dimension
limits.
The two techniques are integrated to get the optimal solution for the tolerance assignment problem with less production cost.
The previous method is introduced in a computer software to save time and effort which could be spent in calculation and consulting standard
requirements and mean while keep production cost minimum as possible.
