Female sexual dysfunction in relationto circumcision in a sample of Egyptian women

Mayada Essam Eldin Muhammad;

Abstract

Female sexual dysfunction is an important and often neglected research area. In Egypt, talking about and even researching this topic was considered a taboo, but not anymore. In this study, we evaluated female sexual dysfunction in relation to the practice of female genital mutilation in Egyptian women. This deeply cultural practice was found to affect female orgasm negatively but not any other aspect of female sexuality using the Arabic version of the Female sexual function index (FSFI).
We also used the female dysfunctional beliefs questionnaire which revealed that some beliefs underlay the practice of female genital mutilation, and which need to be dealt with awareness spreading programs.
