Surgical Management and Outcomes of Hirschsprung Disease in Pediatric Age Group in Ain Shams University Hospital

Abstract


irschsprung’s disease should be considered in patients who have had chronic constipation since birth, as it is the most common cause of constipation in neonates and infants.
Twenty five patients with hirschsprung disease were included in this study who presented to ain shams university children hospital.
Data in the medical records are reviewed including clinical history, examination, radiological investigation: contrast enema, and full-thickness rectal biopsy; the more striking histological feature in HD is the absence of ganglion cells, surgical procedures either Soave or Swenson either abdominal assisted or transanal endorectal pull through and postoperative complications.
No statistically difference between soave and Swenson groups as regarding descriptive data, operative details.
Postoperative complications are postoperative enterocolitis, anastmotic leakage, post operative IO, wound infection and stenosis at site of anastomosis with no statistically difference between two groups.
As much as enterocolitis is the most common cause of death in children with Hirschsprung disease and can occur postoperatively even in patients who did not have
