LASIK IN POST KERATOPLASTY ASTIGMATISM
Hazem Effat Haroun;
Abstract
•Pcistkeratoplasty astigmatism is considered one of jthe most
annoying complications of penetrating keratoplasty, eveJ!t after a
successful surgery leading to significant limitation tf visual
performance. I
In the past, this problem was very difficult to correct even by early or late postoperative suture, removal or resuturing. I •
Some authors recommended corneal wedge rescctio . Others recommended relaxing procedures, including arcuate, tran verse or trapezoid keratomies which act by flattening the steepest mehdian.
I
On the other hand, both photorefractive keratectomy add LASIK
have proven to significantly reduce post-keratoplasty refracti've error.
I
LASIK is preferred to photo-refractive keratectomy due to less
incidence of complications. ! .
'
I
The primary goal of LASlK aJ'ter penetrating keratopl resolution of anisometropia and order to help the patient retain his binocular vision. I
This study was performed on 30 eyes divided into twolgroups:
'
The first group: in which two steps LASlK technique was clone. It involves creating the flap J'irst, then re-evaluating the rcl'raltion ami
corneal topography one month later. This is followed by Jasen' ablation.
This technique aims at taking into account the refractive changes created by the flap creation in order to be more accurate in tissue ab'lation.
