Effect of Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling on Anti-Mullerian Hormone as an Ovarian Reserve Marker in Infertile Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of laparoscopic ovarian drilling on anti-mullerian hormone as an ovarian reserve marker in infertile women with polycystic ovarian syndrome through observational study.
Forty infertile women were elected by inclusion criteria and enrolled in this study. Laparoscopic ovarian drilling was done to the forty participated women. Evaluation of ovarian reserve was done using AMH, AFC and ovarian volume by transvaginal ultrasound before LOD and 3 months after LOD for AMH.
In this study, AMH level was significantlly decreased 3 months post-LOD in comparison to its level pre-LOD and this might indicate diminished ovarian reserve as mean ± SD of pre-LOD AMH was 9.80±4.41 ng/ml and post-LOD AMH 4.63±2.82 ng/ml. More over, post-LOD AMH level was statistically significant decreased in pregnant than non-pregnant.
From the result of the study we suggested that AMH can be used as reliable markers of the ovarian reserve. However, more studies are needed to provide that change in AMH level was either due to traumatic injuries of LOD or due to normalization of AMH level after LOD.
