Abstract

pilonidal sinus is a short tract under the skin usually found in the sacrococcygeal area. Sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus is a common disorder among young adults. Observed most commonly in people aged 15-30 years, with a 3:1 male-to-female ratio. Pilonidal sinus disease was thought to be of congenital origin rather than an acquired disorder but it is now widely considered to be an acquired disorder.
Several different treatment options exist for the pilonidal sinus. Surgery is the main known treatment option for pilonidal sinus. A variety of surgical techniques have been described in the literature for treatment of the primary pilonidal sinus that can basically be divided into 3 groups, including open methods, closed methods and flap techniques.
Our study aim was to compare skin closure and open skin after lay open excision of pilonidal sinus as regards short term outcomes; wound healing, early wound complications and early recurrence.
Our study is a prospective comparative study that was conducted in Ain Shams University Hospitals in Egypt from March 2017 to September 2017 that included 80 patients with pilonidal sinus.
The study compared between two groups, Group (A) 40 patients aged from 17- 42 years (37 males and 3 females) who
