Effect of Virtual Reality Goggles for Changing Behavior of Uncooperative Children Aged From 5-7 Years Old during Dental Treatment

Abstract
Distraction is a well known coping mechanism in pediatric dentistry, virtual reality was chosen in this study to provide an emotional focused distraction intervention in a trial to modify the children’s behavior from uncooperative into cooperative state.
The present study provides encouraging initial support for the use of virtual reality as a technique for controlling fear and anxiety during dental procedures.
This study was designed to evaluate the change in children’s behavior throughout the dental treatment using Virtual Reality Goggles.
Sixty uncooperative children with score 1 and 2 according to Frankl’s scale of behavior (table1) were selected and assigned into 2 groups:
Group 1: children visiting the dentist for the first time.
Group 2: children who were previously exposed to dental treatment.
