Abstract


This study comprised 130 epileptic male patients who were recruited from Outpatient clinics of Pediatrics and Neurology Departments, Ain Shams University hospitals in the period from December 1998 to February 2000.

One hundred and eight patients were pnmary and 22 were symptomatic epileptics. The seizure types were generalized in 62 patients (47.69%), partial in 68 patients (52.31%), 26 of them (20%) had partial epilepsies with secondary generalization.

Sixty three apparently healthy individuals age and sex matched with epileptics were chosen to serve as a control.

According to age distribution patients and controls were divided into 3 subgroups; first age group (8 to <14 years), the second age group (14 to 16 years) and third age group (above 16 years). Patients and controls were subjected to complete history taking with special stress on age of spermarche, seizure type and onset, disease's duration and drug therapy regimen and its duration.
