Wear in Dual Mobility Cups in Total Hip Arthroplasty

Al Qassem Amin Mahmoud;

Abstract

Instability remains a significant issue after both primary and revision total hip arthroplasty. Dual mobility system provides an effective option in preventing and treating instability.
Wear is defined as loss of material from two surfaces that slide over each other during motion under a load, and it can occur through abrasion, adhesion, and fatigue.
The dual mobility component consists of a stainless steel outer shell with a highly polished inner surface that articulates with a mobile liner. This in turn articulates with the femoral head, which remains mobile yet captured within the liner.
