Effect of Mothers' Self-Care Brochure on Early Detection Of Preeclampsia

Abstract
The lack of adequate knowledge on preeclampsia can be prevented by educational and awareness program among antenatal mothers indeed educational program is important to improve antenatal mothers’ knowledge toward prevention and early detection of preeclampsia (Jos et al., 2010 & Joseph et al., 2013). The nurse must educated pregnant women who had responsibility of her own health through preventive practice self-care measures as noticing signs and symptoms, diet and emotional support (WHO, 2007; Souza, et al., 2007; Oyira et al., 2009).
The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of mothers` self-care brochure on early detection of preeclampsia.
This study was conducted at outpatient antenatal clinic, at EL-Hussein University Hospital & Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital.
The subjects of this study were comprised of convenient sample, the sample contained 100 pregnant mothers who were attending the antenatal outpatient clinic at EL-Hussein University Hospital & Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital.
The data were collected through four tools:
1- An Arabic structured interviewing questionnaire sheet to assess socio-demographic data, mother`s history & mother`s knowledge regarding preeclampsia and self-care measures pre-intervention then 2 & 4 weeks post intervention.
2- Checklist adapted from (Brodovi et al., 2009; Kriss, 2013; Adel, 2013; CNA, 214): to assess women’s practice regarding self-care as degree of edema, urine analysis for sugar and protein, perineal care and breast care).
3- Likert scale modified from (Burazeri et al., 2003) to assess mothers’ attitude regarding self-care for preeclampsia.
4- Follow up sheet to follow mothers’ condition and self-reported complain.
The present study revealed that:
- There was highly statistically significant improvement post intervention compared to pre intervention related to mother`s knowledge about preeclampsia.
