Factors Affecting Difference Between Estimated Graft Weight and Actual Graft Weight in Liver Transplantation

Mohamed Kamel Sobhi;

Abstract

In liver transplantation, proper selection of graft volume is critical for safety of donor and successful transplantation in recipient.
Selection of graft volume is assisted by preoperative CT volumetry, still there is difference between preoperative EGV and intraoperative AGW. This difference could be minimal difference (15% or less) or big difference (more than 15%).
In this study, 61.6% of cases (n=53) showed big difference between EGV and AGW. Different preoperative factors were evaluated to detect which of these factors represent risk factor for big difference between EGV and AGW. These factors include: Age, Sex, history of drug intake, BMI, Lipid profile, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic steatosis, EGV and TLV.
Age, Sex, history of drug intake, BMI, Lipid profile, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic steatosis were irrelevant, but EGV and TLV showed positive correlation with difference between EGV and AGW. The higher EGV or TLV, the bigger the difference between EGV and AGW.
Two cutoff points could be identified for each of EGV and TLV to predict donors with big difference between EGV and AGW.
