Abstract
Hypospadias is an early arrest in the devlopment of the penis caused by reduction in the production of fetal testesteron before the penis and urethra are completely formed. In this condition, the urethral meatus is situated on the undersurface of the penis proximal to its normal location in the glans.
Hypospadias is an extremely common anomaly that has been estimated to be 1:300 live male births. Although most hypospadias is anterior, the correction of hypospadias remains one of the most challenging problems in surgery. More that 200 urthroplasties and their modifications have been described to correct the anomaly but no one is suitable for all types of hypospadias.
Our study aimed to compare between two techniques for hypospadias repair which are perimeatal based flap technique (mathieu) and tubularized incited plate (Snodgrass).
Each technique was applied at the same number of patients in two groups as follows:-
a- Group A: the includes 30 patients (24 primary hypospadias cases and 6 recurrent cases) subjected to tubularized in cited plate (Snodgrass) technique.
b- Group B: that also includes 30 patients (24 pnmary hypospadias cases and 6 recurrent cases) subjected to perimeatal based flap (mathieu) technique.
Both techniques were applied at the two groups in the period between Aug. 2000 to may 2001.
