Nursing Intervention for Women Suffering from Common Sexually Transmitted Diseases by Applying an Epidemiological Model

Abstract


Aim of the study:
The study aims to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention for women suffering from common sexually transmitted diseases by applying epidemiological model.
Sample:
A purposive sample was selected randomly for women were attending in Outpatient Maternity Clinic in Maternity Hospital, Ain Shams University. The number of attendance ranged from 2 - 4 women per day according to study criteria. Total number of sample included in the study was 83 womenaccording to following criteria: women diagnosed with sexual transmitted diseases and married.
Tool:
Three tools were used for data collection, 1st tool structured interviewing questionnaire it was developed to assess womenknowledge and practices (Appendix I):It was composed of 4part, part one: socio-demographic data, part two: Assess women with STDs knowledge. Part three: To assess womenpractice. Part four: Vaginal discharge tool: To assess the change of vaginal discharge: (Appendix III).
Second tool:Medical record to assess women medical and obstetric history (Appendix II).Third tool: Hand washing observational checklist(Appendix V).
Result:
The mean age of women 31.5+4.63,more than one third of them had diploma and illiterate, more than one fifth of them were read&write while less than one tenth of them had Bachelor and than three quarter were house wife.According to husband, mean age of them32.9+488 more than one third of them with diploma, more than fifth were illiterate and were read and write, less than fifth had Bachelor, and all of them were worked.
Mostly of family live in urban areaand less than one third of family their income were not enough to family needs.
Considering women diagnosis, more than one third of Trichomonaisand more than one fifth had Candida, less than one fifth had Chlamydia and less than one fifth had Genital Warts while minority of them had Genital Herpes.
Mostly of women performed cervical swab while more than one third performed Pap smear and mostly of women were treated with antifungal drug.
More than three quarter of women had regular menstruation cycle while less than quarter had irregular menstruation cycle.Also more than half had normal blood amount during menstruation cycle while more than two fifth had heavy blood amount.
