V.fHO estnnate that there are 200 to 300 tmllion Carries of hepatitis B virus in the world and that 20-30% of these carriers will dte ofhepatocdlular carcinoma and cirrhosis. Tn the orient
40 % ofh'epatitis B cases may be the result of vertical transmis­
sion [Che 1 , et al., 1989].
