Mohammad Emdadul Haque;

Abstract

Laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia follows some principles that have already proven its efficacy. Totally extraperitoneal laparoscopic repair in an effective but technically demanding procedure. It has distinct advantages over the anterior repair and the laparoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal repair, allowing detection of occult contralateral defects with minimal risk of intra abdominal injury or adhesion formation, and is associated with less pain and quicker recovery. Aim of our study was to evaluate laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal repair of groin hernia regarding feasibility, time to full recovery and return to work, complications and recurrence rate. This study was conducted on 16 male patients with 20 hernias having small, moderate, large sized and recurrent groin hernias and all were reducible and using laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal approach. The provisional result showed that this technique is safe, effective, less pain and/or discomfort, quicker recovery, early return to work
and excellent post operative recovery.
