Designing System for Quality Improvement for the Administrative Structure Of the Nursing Services Department at Kasr EL- Einy Center of Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine

Abstract

The aim of this study was to design a system for improving the quality of the adn#nistrative structure components of the Nursing Services Department at Kasr EL- Einy Center of Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine I (NEMROCK) affiliated to Cairo University Hospital. To achieve this aim a descriptive, methodological design was utilized. The study sample consisted of all th' e nursing staff (37 staff nurse plus 1 nurse director) of the inpatient units ahd all available records and documents related to the administrative structute. Two data collection tools were developed by the investigator and used: Structural Components Assessment Questionnaire (SCAQ) to find out I the available administrative structure components of the Nursing Services Departinent and the degree of their importance as perceived by the respon ents and a checklist to audit records and documents of the administrative structure components as regards their availability and compr hensiveness. The study was carried out on three phases : 1) assessment phase to find out the available administrative structure components of the Nursing Services Department and their importance , 2) design phase ; two committees of the nursing staff were fonned cooperatively with the nurse directdr to give their input in developing the structure components , and 3) orienta' tion phase ; an orientation program was performed to introduce the l administrative structure to the nursing staff .The findings of the study indicated absence of written administrative structure . The study recommended that the proposed structure should be used in the Nursing Servides Department at Kasr EL-Einy Center of Radiation Oncology and Nuclekr Medicine ( NEMROCK ) to improve the quality of care provided and

disserbinated by the hospital administration to the personnel department and the ptoposed structure should be reviewed , revised and updated periodically as ap ropriate as necessary to reflect the ongoing improvements .
