Abstract

Oxidation of carbon monoxide is an important reaction for the treatment of automobile exhaust. Copper oxide has be7n demonstrated to be a very active species among the base-metal oxides for this reaction. Hence, many studies have b
activity, selectivity and low cost.

Catalytic decomposition of H202 has been extensively studied as due to its efficiency as oxygen source for inspiration in closed places and in an airplanes.
Alumina is the most widely-used support material. It is available in high purity at moderate coast , and various polymorphous and hydrated forms . can be made with a range of surface area C I m' g•' to more than 200m 2 g•' ) , • porosities , and pore structures .
Cerium oxide has been widely used as an additive ingredient in. automotive three way catalysts due to its high availability to store and release oxygen. Zirconium oxide , Zr02 , is very interesting material because of its thermal stability , its mechanical properties and its acidic , reducing and oxidizing surface properties.
CuO/Al203 catalyst systems were prepared by wet impregnation method. The Al203 support material was obtained by precalcination of Al(OH), at temperature ranged between I 00 to 800"C. The molar composition of the prepared systems was 0.2Cu0/Al203 • The extent of CuO
content was 13.5 wt% .

Systems of 0.2Cu0/Zr02 and 0.2Cu0/Ce02 prepared by precalcination of zirconyl nitrate and cerrous nitrate at 400 - 600'C' followed by calcination in air at 500'C. The extent of CuO loading was 11.4wt%. and
7.8 wt.% , respectively .
