Risk Associating of Patients with Radiopharmaceuticals in Nuclear Cardiology (In vivo and In vitro)
MAHMOUD HANY KHEDR;
Abstract
In the present work, the effect of injection of patients with radiopharmaceuticals for myocardial perfusion and heart function imaging purposes using the gamma camera, on the RBCs membrane structure and function as well as haemoglobin structure is studied. The international protocols applied for this purposes which were used at the Cairo university hospitals were followed. The main purpose of the present work is to evaluate the risk associating injection with different radiopharmaceuticals on the red blood cells properties and functions. This was achieved through measurements of the solubilization of cell membrane with non ionic
detergent, osmofragility studies and molecular properties of Hb through measurements of the
..
dielectric relaxation absorption spectra and the morphological form of the RBCs through blood film as scanned by an image analyser. For further understanding and evaluating the risk the experiments were expande. to cover invitro studies on human blood and invivo studies on rats. The radiopharmaceuticals used were 9901Tc with activity 30mCi, 9901Tc-MIBI with total activity
SOmCi divided on two days 9901Tc-tetrofosmin of SOmCi divided on two days and 201Tl with
activity 4 mCi
The results of the blood characteristics for the patients after being injected with the• radippharmaceuticals indicated that, there are changes in the cellular membrane surface after injection this can be noticed from the solubilization curves, osmofragility curves and blood films.The degree of change in blood characteristics proved to be radiopharmaceutical type dependent. The invitro studies didn't show remarkable changes in the blootl characteristics demonstration.
