LAPAROSCOPIC ASSISTED ORCHIOPEXY FOR IMPALPABLE UNDESCENDED TESTES
Mohamed lbraheem EI-Sawaf;
Abstract
This study was undertaken to evaluate the laparoscopic assisted orchiopexy as a new technique for orchiopexy in impalpable testis.
The material of the current study was 25 cases with 29 impalpable testes with a mean age of 4.6 years, 21 cases with unilateral impalpable testis (9 cases (36%) in Jhe right side and 12 cases (48%) in the left side ) and 4 cases (16%) with bilateral impalpable testes. In 9 cases (36%) the testis was found absent (vanished). In the remaining 16 cases (64%) 20 testes underwent laparoscopic assisted orchiopexy .12 cases (75%) with unilateral impalpable testis (7 testes (35%) in the right side and 5 testes (25%) in the left side) and 4 cases (25%) with bilateral impalpable testes. Out of 20 testes. 11 testes (55%) in the right side and 9 testes (45%) in the left side. All of them were submitted to ultrasound examination which revealed accuracy rate about (48.3%) after confirmation of the data with the results of diagnostic laparoscopy. Localization .of the testis is considered the first step in managing the impalpable testis by laparoscopy which was either:
1- Intra-abdominal 13 testes (44.8%)
2- Peeping from internal ring 7 testes (24.14%)
3- Absent (vanished) 9 testes (31.03%)
