A NEW APPROACH FOR REALIZING ELECTRONIC CHAOS GENERATORS

Abstract

A dictionary definition of chaos is a ''Formless primordial matter, utter confusion" [I]. The study of chaos is part of a larger program of study of so-called strongly nonlinear systems. No strict definition of chaos yet exists, however, non random complicated motions that exhibit a very rapid growth of errors and that, despite perfect determinism, inhibit any ability to render accurate long-term prediction are usually terrned chaotic. In other words, chaos may be referred to as detenninistic randomness since it is the phenomenon where deterministic laws, that are sometimes extremely simple, show random (or random-like) behaviours while random (or random-like) motions happen to follow strict deterministic laws.
The sense of order in chaos can be usually observed in the space of dimensions where time is not a dimension, while the sense of randomness is usually evident when time is incorporated.
The main maxim of science is its ability to relate cause and effect, which is known as

the causality principle but when there is no clear relation between cause and effect, such phenomena are said to have random elements. It was assumed that it was only necessary to gather and process greater quantities of more precise information m order for such phenomena to be predictable. Chaos is where randomness ts fundamental and gathering more inforrnation does not make it disappear. One of the primer principals of modern physics is the Heisenberg uncertainty principal, introduced in I 927, which states that [2] " In the strict formulation of the causality law, when the present is precisely known, the future can be calculated". It was for a long time thought that not the final clause, but rather the premise of the principal, that is false i.e. the present in all its details is unknown. However, even this formulation of the uncertainty principal was shown to be incorrect only due to the extensive work on the models used for numerical weather forecasting carried out by Lorenz [3] around
1960 (a brief discussion of the Lorenz system appears in chapter 2 ).
