MOHAMAD HUSSEIN HASSANEAN;

Abstract

Various gastrointestinal disorders have been reported in few studies in patients with bronchial asthma. The aim of this work was to determine the fi•equency of gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g. abdominal pain, vomiting, hea11burn, regurgitation, abdominal distention, bloating, eructations, diarrhoea and constipation) in children with bronchial asthma versus those with non-asthmatic wheezy chest.

The study included two groups of patients; 75 children with bronchial astluna (age: 6.7 ± 2.8 years) and 25 children with non-asthmatic wheezy chest (age: 1.7 ± 0.7 years). Also, an equal number of age and sex matched healthy children were included as controls for each group. All patients and controls were subjected to a detailed history taking (particularly gastrointestinal symptoms, atopic symptoms, and medications), through clinical examination, and some routine investigations, in addition to endoscopic examination whenever indicated.
