Abstract

Biological studies on the mesostigmatic predators Macrocheles muscaedomesticae (Scopoli) (Family : Macrochelidae) and Lasioseius athiasae Nawar & Nasr (Family : Ascidae) were conducted in the laboratory on different stages of Phthorimaea operculella at different degrees of temperature.

The obtained results are as follows :

1- Macrocheles muscaedomesticae (Scopoli):

M muscaedomesticae individuals were r'eared on different stages (eggs, first, second, third instar larvae and pupae) of potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) in laboratory at 25°C. Results revealed that :
1- At 25°C, eggs and first instar larval stages gave the shortest duration of predator life cycle (5.1 days), but the first instar of larva gave the longest adult longevity (49.9 days) and the highest fecundity (2.9 eggs/female), while the third instar gave the longest duration (6.6 days) and the lowest fecundity (0.7 egg/female).
2- The duration of female life cycle were 5.1, 5.1, 5.2, 5.8 and 6.6 days on eggs, first instar, pupae, second instar and third instar of P. operculella at 25°C, respectively.
3- The adult female longevity were 25.0, 31.0, 30.2, 36.6 and 49.9 days on pupae, eggs, third, second and first instar of P. operculella at
25°C, respectively.
