Abstract

The toxicity of seven synthetic pyrethroid insecticides:
1.e. esfenvalerate (Sumialfa, Sumigold), deltamethrin, cyhalothrin (Kendo, Karate), fenpropathrin and cis-cyfluthrin against F 1 Camiolan honeybees was investigated under laboratory and field prevailing conditions at Zagazig district, Sharkia Governorate during the period from 1997 to 1999.
• laboratory part of this study was carried out in the laboratories of Plant Protection Depatment, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University.

I- Effect of the tested synthetic pyrethroid insecticides on honeybee workers:
1) Direct contact toxicitv:
Regarding the direct contact toxicity of the tested synthetic pyrethroid insecticides to honeybee workers, it is obvious that all the tested compounds proved to be highly toxic "to honeybee workers. The LD50 and LD90 values (in /bee) were 0.00018 and 0.00216 for cis-cyfluthrin; 0.00098 and
0.00584 for cyhalothrin (Karate); 0.00118 and 0.00557 for cyhalothrin (Kendo); 0.00125 and 0.00413 foe esfenvalerate (Sumialfa); 0.00129 and 0.00408 for esfenvalerate (Sumigold);
0.00182 and 0.01599 for deltamethrin and 0.01098 and 0.07059
• for fenpropathrin.
