THE STUDY OF THE POSSIBLE ROLE OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI IN THE ETIOLOGY OF CHRONIC LARYNGITIS IN PATIENTS WITH GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE

Khaled Hassan Abd El-Naby;

Abstract

The pathophysiological role of Helicobacter pylori in the development of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers is now widely accepted. However, data on the association between H. pylori and gastro-esophageal reflux disease are conflicting:

Some recent studies suggested a protective role of H. pylori against reflux esophagitis but some other studies found no consistent change in gastroesophageal acid reflux after H. pylori eradication.

The data on the association between H. pylori and chronic laryngitis are not clear but a recent study suggested a possible role of H. pylori infection in the etiology of chronic laryngitis as after eradication of H. pylori there was resolution of clinical sings and symptoms of chronic laryngitis. Additionally, it is now known that gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) can cause chronic laryngitis.

The aim of our work is to study the possible role of H. pylori in the etiology of chronic laryngitis in patients with gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
