Detection of Hemodialysis Access Stenosis with Color Doppler Ultrasound

Abstract


The study was conducted to evaluate colour Doppler ultrasound

;DS) in detection of subclinical and clinical stenosis of

:•emodialysis access of 30 fistulae and one graft. Doppler US was

•,rformed in 31 patients with and without symptoms of haemodialysis

:\ ..ccess dysfunction. To assess the presence and percentage of stenosis,
I he maximum systolic blood velocity and velocity ratios were
•f .aeasured and the US images were assessed visually. Venography was
.. •!• done to 5 patients who demonstrated signs of access dysfunction
,f (upper limb oedema, difficult cannulation and prolonged bleeding

i a:fter needle removal). The obtained results were tabulated and
