Abstract
A convenience sample of all available nurses who areworking at the transplant unit and caring for patients with kidney transplantation at the first 10 days after surgery wereincluded in the study. The total number of nurses who areaccepted to participate in the study were(30) staff nurse,(24)females and(6) males. Of the(30) staff nurses, five(5) had a diploma of nursing,(16) had a diploma of nursing withspecialty and(9) had bachelor of nursing.
D) Tools for data collection:
Two tools for data collection were used as follows:
1. Nurse self-administrive questionnaire tool.
2. Observation check list.
1. Nurse self-administrive questionnaire sheet:(Appendix I)
This tool was used to assess nurses' level of knowledge regarding care for patient with kidney transplantation. The questionnaire was administered to nurses at December(2014). It consisted of two parts:
Part I: Is concerned with demographic characteristics of the nurses under study to provide a descriptive data regarding nurse's age, sex, level of education, and years of experience.
Part II: Is assessing the nurses' level of knowledge regarding care for patient with kidney transplantation. It consists of fifty(50) questions. Thirty questions(30) in the form of multiple choice questions(MCQ) for choosing one answer.
Observation checklists:(Appendix II)
The observation checklists were used to assess nurses' practice during caring for patient post-operative kidney transplantation as regards to infection control, intake and output, caring of central line, vital signs, urinary catheterization, blood sample and arterial sample.It was developed by the researcher based on the related literature Williams & Wilkins,(2009).
The results of the present study revealed that:
• The mean age for the studied nurses was(35.06± 9.1).Asregard to gender, most of the studied nurses were females.
• More than half of studied nurses(53.3%) had nursing school with specialty,(30%) of them had bachelor of nursing, while(16.7%) of studied nurses had nursing school.
