Pathology Registry of Malignant Vaginal Tumors in Years 2001-2005 at Ain Shams University Hospitals

Abstract

Considerable progress has been made during the past decade in the field of oncologic pathology. The application or recent advances in molecular biology, immune histiochemistry and electron microscope have contributed much to our current knowledge on the etiology, pathogenesis and classification of malignant tumors. Moreover, it was possible through long term follow up studies and multivariate analysis of different tumors and patient parameters to establish prognostic factors for cancer at most organ site. The aim of this work is performing statistical analysis of different types of the malignant vaginal tumors received at the Unit of Early Cancer Detection, Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital during a period of five years (2001-2005), with revision of histopathological type, grade, stage and clinical data from the patients' files. In addition new classification of vaginal tumors was adopted and reviewed. The material of this study includes only 23 cases of vaginal tumors collected from the Unit of Early Cancer Detection in Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital during the period from 2001- 2005.

In all cases the following was done: [1] Available Clinical data were fulfilled from the patients’ clinical sheet, regarding age distribution, histological diagnosis and type. [2] Revision of all Haematoxylin and Eosin (H & E) slides for routine histology. The slides were re-examined and re-classified according to WHO classification of vaginal tumours (2007).
