Radiation Synthesis and Characterization of Some Functionalized Polymers for Possible Uses

Nehad Ahmed Ahmed Mohmmed Ahmed;

Abstract

In this work attempts were made to design, prepare and characterize novel polymeric materials for the possible use in different biomedical fields such as drug delivery carrier and tissue regeneration. The present work deals with two main parts of biomaterials; Dextran/PAAc were used to prepare a mucoadhesive drug carrier. On the other hand, N, O-carboxymethylchitosan/PVA/PHEMA terpolymer hydrogel was prepared as potential scaffold for tissue engineering. ɤ-Rays from 60Co source-as a super clean and environmental friendly source for initiation and copolymerization was used to achieve all the above mentioned intelligent copolymers .The present study is divided into two parts:
Part (I): Radiation synthesis of Dextran/Acrylic acid copolymer hydrogel for mucoadhesive buccal delivery
A novel mucoadhesive hydrogels prepared by copolymerization of Dextran in presence of acrylic acid which showed mucoadhesive properties and suitable swelling, which properties fulfill the essential requirements for developing a buccal mucoadhesive drug delivery system. Preparation conditions, Swelling capacity and kinetics, feed solution concentration and composition and mucoadhesive strength was studies as well as irradiation dose of the prepared hydrogels were determined. Cefadroxil, Trifluoperazineand Propranolol HCl were loaded into the (Dextran/PAAc) hydrogel as a model of drugs to determine the ability of
