Assessment of Surgical Lip Repositioning Technique for Correction of Excessive Gingival Display
Ahmed Nabil Ahmed Saleh;
Abstract
Smile is one of the important facial expressions which is essential for communication with others and expressing emotions. Excessive gingival display was found to be a source of concern for many patients. It was found to be due to different etiological factors that include Altered\delayed passive eruption, anterior dentoalveolar extrusion, plaque\drug induced gingival hyperplasia, short upper lip
,vertical maxillary excess and finally hyperactive lip hence accurate diagnosis of EGD is essential for proper treatment of this condition .Periodontal , orthodontic and medical treatment can successively treat EGD due to conditions other than hyperactive lip that can correct temporary by BTX-A injection and VME that can be corrected by orthognathic surgery which is an invasive procedure with long recovery period. At 2006, Ziv Simon introduced lip repositioning procedure as less invasive permanent treatment for EGD due to VME and Hyperactive lip. Many case reports were published reporting successful results using the previously mentioned technique, some of these case reports added modifications to the original technique with no justifications and none of them give sufficient follow-up period.
The aim of current study was to standardize all parameters based on Rubniston
