Development and Implementation of Electronic Medical Record System in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Abeer Hossney Shafie;

Abstract

This study aims to create a competent electronic patient record system to be implemented in neonatal intensive care unit.
Neonatal care is an extremely data-intensive activity. Neonatal databases support collecting, displaying, and analyzing data. Such database can be very supportive to clinical practice and in surveillance of infectious diseases. The computerization of the medical record has resulted in the storage of a wealth of clinical data, including clinical documents, vital signs, laboratory results, pharmacy records, and diagnosis codes. This abundance of data creates great opportunity generating new knowledge by mining the data and using it to improve patient care.
We designed standard medical records to be used in NICU guided by paper medical record used in MOH (ministry of health) NICU, Cairo and Ain-Shams University NICU.
In this study software to store and retrieve neonatal medical records was developed.
