Experimental Studies on Alloimplants in Canine Model

Abstract
Many disease conditions can affect the bone, to which it acts in a limited manner. Bone tissue can resorb, die, or new bone may be laid down. Small bone defects heal in an uncomplicated manner, which is not the case if the defect was large. In such conditions restoring normal size, shape and function of the affected bone may need grafting. Grafting procedures imply that various types of graft materials are put into the osseous defect. There are many types of grafting materials available in the market. It is the task of the clinician to choose between them in order to achieve most possible success.
Facial bone defects have a variety of causes, such as
eradication of pathologic conditions, trauma, infections, congenital deformities, periodontal disease, and alveolar ridge resorption. The sizes of the defects that are commonly reconstructed in the oral and maxillofacial region vary considerably from small alveolar clefts to mandibulectomy defects (Ellis III, 1998).
The fixed prosthetic replacement of lost human teeth is
dependent on the presence of reliable abutment teeth. The prognosis of these teeth can be compromised by the pathologic conditions. Furthermore, the collapse of the residual alveolar ridge after tooth extraction or surgery can jeopardize the aesthetic result
