Asmaa Metwally Ali Metwally;

Abstract

Ostrich is one of the alternative sources of meat in most countries all over the world, also their product (leather, feather and eggs) are important in commercial industry; therefore great attention was directed to improve this industry to meet the increase people demands.
The enterobacteriacae infection is one of the most serious problems that affects ostrich industry causing high economic losses not only due to mortality rate of young chicks but also for the debilitating effect which predispose for many other diseases, this beside the lowering of hatchability, fertility , egg production , quality of products and finally the high cost of wide range of antibiotics agent used for controlling diseases.
So, the aim of the present study was planned to fulfill the following:
1- Isolation of some bacterial pathogens specially enterobacteriacae from surrounding environment in ostrich farms and monitoring the microbial load of each ostrich production sectors.
2- Identification of the isolated strains by serological tests and PCR for detection of virulence gene.
3- Studying the effect of some commercially available disinfectants commonly used in farms against isolated strains.

A total of 445 samples that include 115 ostrich dropping, 110 soil samples, 26 feed samples, 22 water samples, 25 worker hands swabs, 83 egg swabs, 64 incubator and hatchery swabs. Were collected from 6 farms of different locations.

The samples collected from different ostrich yards [adult (172 samples) and chick yards (101 samples) represent feaces ,soil, feed and water ], 83swabs from egg before disinfection, 64swabs from hatcherie
