Survival Rates in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer Patients Managed by Neoadjuvant vs. Adjuvant Therapy

Abstract


This retrospective cohort study of locally advanced rectal cancer on 134 patients at ain shams clinical oncology and nuclear medicine center. Study performed at duration between 2010 and 2014 median follow up 18 months.
It is 2 arms study, the first one,72 pts were received neo-adjuvant CCRTH (concurrent chemoradio therapy) then TME then chemotherapy. The second arm received adjuvant CCRTH only.
The end points are overall survival, progression free survival and treatment toxicity outcomes.
Results showed non significant survival outcome between two arms, local control and treatment toxicity outcome better for first neoadjuvant arm.
