Abstract

The currrent study was carried out in the Clinical Pathology department­ El-Minia University hospital, it included 75 male subjects from the general population residing in EI-Minia Governorate, their ages ranged from 32 to 59 yenrs. According to the level or their smoking index they were classified into 3 groups.

<1> /1('(1\ V smokers grollfJ (( il'llllfl /) included 32 heavy somkcr subjects with mean age ±SO of 49.8 ± 4.7 and mean (SI) ±SO of680.3 ± 69.7.

<1> Moderate. smokers group (< iroup II) included 18 moderate somker subjects with mean age :SO of37.5 ±1.8 and mean (SI) ±SO of385 ±37.4.

<1> Non - smokers gmiiJI (( imiiJJ Ill) included 25 sul jects with mean age

:SO or 43.7 ±5.6. They were non-smokers.

For e<1ch subject (smoker or non-smoker) the following investigations were carried out:

1- full clinical history including smoking habits (duration of smoking in years and number or cigarettes smoked per day) and to exclude history of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes mellitus or liver diseases.

II- Full clinical examination including blood pressure measurement, clinical examination or the abdomen, heart & chest and ECG examination.
