Abstract


Dental crowding occurs when the dental arch perimeter between the first permanent molars is insufficient to permit normal alignment of the erupting permanent teeth.


One of the .common characteristic features of malocclusion in Egypt • is the presence of dental crowding. Anterior dental crowding is perhaps the most frequently occurring characteristic of malocclusion. The measurement of crowding of the teeth must be associated with the measurement of the mixed dentition. Accurate and specific prediction of future dental development events can be made at that stage and appropriate interceptive action taken. However, dental crowding is measured and analyzed to assist in decision regarding the maintenance of teeth in their existing positions or their movement to improve position.
