COAGULATION PROBLEMS. IN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Abstract


A variety serious coagulation problems are common in the critical care units. This include bleeding from stress ulcers, posoperatively after open heart surgery, patients with multiple trauma, sepsis and multiple organ failure.

This study was done on I 00 patients randomly chosen from adult general ICU in the armed forced hospitals. Those patients were divided into four group according to the cause of admission:

1'1 Group: sepsis.


2"d Group: Multiple trauma.


3ed Group: post cardiopulmonary by pass.

h Group: medical causes (MOF and GIT bleeding).


Coagulation screening test were done in all groups on admission and every day during their stay in ICU with other laboratory work.

Assessment of the patients condition and scoring the risk factor was done in all groups to assess the mortality rate ofthe patients.

We use the APACH II , MOF score GGS, and trauma scale.


Prothrombin time (PT) is the most sensitive parameter between all coagulation test in prediction of coagulopathy.
