EFFECT OF PLAY PREPARATION ON THE ANXIETY LEVEL OF CHILDREN UNDERGOING INVASIVE NURSING PROCEDURES

Abstract


Play is the fundamental part of every child's life. Through it, they learn about themselves and environment. So that play can used to teach, express feeling or as a method to achieve a therapeutic goal.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of play preparation on the anxiety level of children undergoing invasive nursing procedures. The study was carried out at surgical units of Ain Shams Children's Hospital from February 2000 up to June 2000. The sample of this study was consisted of 110 children, admitted to the hospital for a: first time, children ages
are ranged from 3 s 18 years. Both sex involved and
complicated cases were excluded.


Children were distributed randomly into two equal groups; each group involved 55 child.

1. First group (Study group):

The researcher prepared mothers and their children before invasive procedures by using different types of play (role-play and demonstration by play through dramatic play) in addition to routine care of hospital.

2. Second group (Control group):

They received the routine unit preparation without interference from the researcher before invasive procedures.
